How to Reduce Homelessness in Toledo

Humanity Store
Humanity Store Logo

St. Paul's Community Center provides our homeless clients with temporary shelter, meals, basic grooming products, and clothing. These tangible goods and services, when supplemented with medical care and counseling, can help to restore what all humans need — dignity and a sense of belonging to a larger community.

When you "purchase" things in the Humanity Store, you are actually donating your cash to St. Paul's Community Center to help defray the costs of providing goods and services to the homeless. Some people find it easier to see the value of their donations when they can see what SPCC Toledo can do with the cash.

Please enjoy your giving experience and give as generously as your circumstances permit.

Your donations help us help others! St. Paul’s Community Center’s mission can only be continued through financial support, donations and volunteers from the community. 80% of funding for our food program comes from monetary donations from individuals, churches and businesses.  Shelter operations also depend on donations of money, in-kind services and goods to supplement other sources of revenue and provide the programs and services that can be a lifeline for the individuals we serve.

Your donations are tax-deductible and critical to our continued operation. The need in our community continues to grow and your financial support is more important than ever to help the greater numbers of those in need.

We want to assure you of our commitment to excellence while giving you the comfort you need that your support is going to a well respected and credible organization. Therefore we make sure that St. Paul's Community Center meets the very highest standards of charitable accountability. We have earned accreditation by the Better Business Bureau’s Charity Seal Program as meeting its Standards for Charity Accountability. You can be assured that your support is being utilized prudently.

Volunteers are the heart of St. Paul's Community Center and fill many roles in our programs for the homeless and indigent. Many of our volunteers have special skills and gifts. If you have a professional skill, area of special knowledge or even a hobby you would like to share with our management or those we serve, please let us know.

We welcome the generosity and creativity of volunteers with access to funding, and will gladly work with you to develop a special day of service. For example, some groups fund painting days, enabling us to renew hallways, dining areas, and meeting rooms. Others have brought our outdoor areas to life with shrubs, flowers, and seating, bringing beauty and joy into the lives of our residents and guests.

There are always tasks requiring an extra hand in the kitchen, the office, or to simply pick up a donation and deliver it to the shelter. Whatever your skills, talents or abilities, you can help us to help those most at-risk in our community. We need volunteers to assist in all aspects of the operation and will be happy to find a way for you to help.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • “Adopt a Room” at the shelter or transitional housing for refurbishing
  • Pick up donations
  • Help in the shelter with general office duties
  • Assist with fundraising events
  • Conduct a food drive
  • Painting or landscaping
